Terms of Use
Last updated 24 August 2026
Prayer Chain is made by KVC, Inc. (“KVC”, “we”, “us”) in Chanhassen, Minnesota. By using the app you agree to these terms. They are short, and written to be understood.
1. What Prayer Chain is, and the two ways to use it
Prayer Chain helps you keep track of the people you are praying for. There are two ways to use it, and the difference matters throughout these terms.
Privately, on your own device — no account
You may use Prayer Chain entirely on your own, with no account and no sign-in. What you write is stored only on your device and is never sent to us or to anyone else. Nobody else can see it, and nothing you write is shared with any group.
As a member of a parish or group
If a parish or group has given you a code, you may join it. What you post to that group is stored on our server and shared with its other members, which is the whole point of a prayer chain.
The app is free for members either way. A parish or group pays KVC an annual subscription for its own prayer chain; that arrangement is between KVC and the group, and nothing is ever sold to you inside the app.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are joining a group, you must have been given its code by that group, and your membership must be approved by one of its administrators.
Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done from your account. Tell your administrator, or us, if you think someone else has access to it.
Sections 3 to 7 apply only if you join a parish or group. If you use Prayer Chain privately on your own device, none of them apply to you: nothing you write is shared with anyone, there is nobody to report to or block, and no administrator can see any of it.
3. Sharing with a group: prayer requests concern real people
Almost everything you post is about somebody else, and it is usually private to them. Post only what that person would be content for their prayer group to know.
When you add a request to a group, every approved member of that group can read it. Please:
- Ask the person first where you reasonably can, or share fewer details.
- Do not post someone's medical information, address, or contact details beyond what is needed for the group to pray for them.
- Do not copy a request out of the app and share it elsewhere.
- Use the personal setting for anything you are not ready to share.
4. What you must not share with a group
You agree not to post to a group anything that is:
- abusive, harassing, threatening, or demeaning towards anyone;
- hateful towards a person or group, including on grounds of religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise obscene;
- false, or intended to mislead the group;
- somebody else's private information, shared without their agreement;
- advertising, solicitation, fundraising, or political campaigning;
- unlawful, or an encouragement to break the law;
- an infringement of anyone else's copyright or other rights.
You also agree not to attempt to reach information you have not been given access to, to disrupt the service, or to use it to gather information about other members.
5. In a group: reporting something, and blocking a member
If you see something that does not belong in your prayer chain, use Report on that request or note. It goes to your group's administrator, who can remove it.
You may also block another member, which hides what that member has written from your view of the chain.
Reports are reviewed by your group's administrator. We remove content that breaks these terms, and we may suspend or remove a member who does so repeatedly or seriously. Where something is urgent or concerns your safety, write to [email protected].
6. Your group's administrators
Each group appoints its own administrators. They approve members, may edit or remove requests in their group, and handle reports. They act for their parish or group, not for KVC. They cannot see prayers you have marked personal.
7. Content you share with a group stays yours
What you write remains yours. By posting it to a group you give KVC permission to store it and to show it to the members of that group, and to include it in the reminders they have asked for — which is simply what running the app requires. We claim no other rights over it and we do not use it for any other purpose.
8. Ending your use
You may stop at any time, whichever way you use Prayer Chain.
Using it privately on your device: there is no account to close. Delete the prayers in the app, or remove the app, and nothing remains — we never held anything to begin with.
As a member of a group: you can delete your account from the app's menu, from getprayerchain.com/delete-account.html, or by emailing us. What deletion removes is set out in our Privacy Policy.
An administrator may remove you from their group. We may suspend or end access for anyone who seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.
If a group's subscription ends, members will be given a reasonable opportunity to retrieve their own personal prayers before access closes.
9. Things we cannot promise
This section applies however you use Prayer Chain.
We work to keep Prayer Chain running and correct, but we provide it "as is". We cannot promise it will always be available, that a reminder or notification will always arrive, or that it will be free of faults. It is not a substitute for medical, legal or pastoral advice, and it must not be relied on in an emergency.
Prayer Chain is not a place to store the only copy of something you cannot lose. If you use it privately on your device, your prayers exist only on that device — if you lose it, or clear the app's storage, they are gone, and we cannot recover them.
10. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, KVC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Prayer Chain, or for anything posted by another member. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If we make a significant change we will tell members in the app and update the date above. Continuing to use Prayer Chain after that means you accept the revised terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States.
