Privacy Policy

Prayer Chain is made by KVC, Inc. (“KVC”, “we”, “us”) in Chanhassen, Minnesota. This policy explains what the app and this website collect, who can see it, where it is kept, and how to have it removed. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version. If you use Prayer Chain privately on your own device, nothing you write ever leaves it — we collect nothing at all. If you join a parish or group, what you post is shared with that group and nobody else. Either way, there is no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking of any kind, and nothing you enter is ever sold or rented.

1. Two very different ways to use the app

Privately, on your device

You may use Prayer Chain without an account at all. Choose Use privately on this device and everything you enter — the people you are praying for, what they are going through, and your notes — is stored only in your own device's storage. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. We cannot read it, we do not know it exists, and we could not recover it for you if you lost your device.

In this mode we collect nothing whatsoever.

As a member of a prayer group

If you join a parish or group with a code, your information is stored on a server operated by KVC so that it can be shared with the other members of that group. The rest of this policy describes that case.

2. What we collect, and why

WhatWhy
Your name and email address So your group knows who you are, and so you can be sent a sign-in code or reset your password. Your name appears to other members of your group.
Your password, stored only as a salted cryptographic hash To sign you in. We never store your password itself and cannot see or recover it.
Prayer requests, and notes on them — including the name of the person prayed for and what they are going through This is the purpose of the app. See section 3, which is the most important part of this policy.
Which group or groups you belong to, and your role in each To show you the right prayer chain and to decide what you may do in it.
Sign-in records — the date, and the device you signed in from To keep you signed in, to let you use more than one device, and so a group administrator can see that an account is in use.
Notification settings and reminder times, and, if you turn notifications on, a device registration supplied by your phone To send only the reminders you asked for. Turning notifications off removes it.
Anything you send us through Help & Feedback, plus your app version and device model To answer you and to fix problems. Sent only when you choose to send it.

We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photos (beyond any picture you deliberately attach to a person), your browsing activity, or an advertising identifier. There is no advertising in Prayer Chain and there never will be.

3. If you join a group: prayer requests are sensitive, and your group can read them

This section applies only if you choose to join a parish or group. Used privately on your own device, nothing below applies — what you write is seen by nobody but you.

For everyone who does join a group, this deserves to be said plainly rather than buried in a list.

A prayer request usually names a real person and describes something private about them — an illness, a surgery, a bereavement, a family difficulty. When you post a request to your group, every approved member of that group can read it, and it may be included in the daily reminder they receive.

Please only share what the person concerned would be content for their prayer group to know. If you are unsure, ask them, or use fewer details. A request marked personal is visible only to you.

Prayer Chain is not a medical service and is not a health record. KVC is not a healthcare provider and this information is not protected health information under HIPAA. It is personal information that you and your fellow members choose to share with one another, and we protect it as described in section 6.

4. Who can see your information

If you are using Prayer Chain privately on your device, the answer is nobody. Nothing is sent to us, so there is nothing for anyone to see. What follows describes what happens when you belong to a parish or group.

5. We do not sell your information, and there are no trackers

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not share it for advertising. There are no analytics, no advertising networks, and no third-party tracking scripts in the app.

We rely on a small number of services strictly to run the app:

We may disclose information if we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.

6. How your information is protected

No service can promise perfect security, and we do not. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.

7. How long we keep it

Prayer requests and their notes are kept as part of your group's history so that a person's story can be followed over time, unless your administrator deletes them or you ask us to. Sign-in records expire on their own. If your group's subscription ends, we will give members a reasonable opportunity to retrieve their own personal prayers before access is closed.

8. Deleting your account and your information

You may delete your account at any time. In the app, open the menu and choose Delete my account. You can also request deletion from getprayerchain.com/delete-account.html or by emailing [email protected], without installing anything.

Deleting your account removes your member record, your personal prayers and their notes, your group memberships, your notification registrations and reminders, and your sign-in records.

Requests you contributed to your group's shared prayer chain are about other people and form part of that group's history, so they are not automatically removed. If you would like a request you posted taken down, ask your group's administrator, who can remove it.

9. Children

Prayer Chain is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from a child under 13. A parish may include younger members at a parent's discretion; if you believe a child has given us information without a parent's consent, contact us — we will look into it and, once confirmed, remove it.

10. Where your information is held

This applies only if you join a parish or group. Used privately on your own device, your prayers never leave your device and are not stored anywhere else — not in the United States or anywhere.

For group members: Prayer Chain is operated from the United States and your information is stored there. If you use the app from another country, you are sending your information to the United States.

11. Your choices

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to access, correct or delete it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Write to us and we will honour them.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and we will tell members in the app if the change is a significant one.
