Delete your account

You can delete your Prayer Chain account at any time, and you do not need our permission or our help to do it. There are two ways.

In the app — immediate

  1. Open Prayer Chain and sign in.
  2. Open the menu.
  3. Choose Delete My Account.
  4. You will be shown exactly what will be removed, and then asked to type DELETE to confirm.

It happens straight away. Nothing is queued for later and nothing waits on us.

By asking us — if you would rather not, or cannot sign in

Email [email protected] from the address your account uses, and ask us to delete it. We will confirm when it is done.

If you can no longer reach that email address, write to us anyway and tell us your name and which parish or group you belonged to — we will find another way to check it is you before removing anything.

What is removed

What stays, and why

Prayer requests you added for your group are not removed automatically — but your name is taken off them.

Those requests are about other people. They are usually somebody's illness, surgery or bereavement, and they form part of that group's history of praying for them. One member leaving should not erase the record of a parish praying for someone's cancer.

So the request stays and your name is replaced. What remains is the prayer, not the person who typed it.

If you would like a particular request taken down as well, ask your group's administrator — they can remove it — or tell us when you write and we will pass it on.

Removing some of your information, without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your whole account to take something down.

If you would rather we did it, email [email protected] and tell us what you would like removed. Your account, and everything else in it, stays exactly as it is.

If you are the only administrator of a group

The app will stop you, and say so. Deleting the only administrator would leave that congregation with nobody who can approve new members or act on anything reported, and no way to fix it from inside the app. Make someone else an administrator first, then delete your account.

Using the app privately, with no account?

Then there is nothing here to delete — we never had it. Prayers kept privately on your device are stored only on that device and were never sent to us. Remove them in the app, or delete the app, and nothing remains.
