Joining your prayer chain
Prayer Chain can be used two ways: on your own, or as a member of your parish’s or group’s prayer chain. This page walks you through joining a chain, the first time and every time after.
- I can only see my own prayers You are using the app on your own. Here is the difference.
- Joining a prayer chain for the first time Whether you have just installed the app or have been using it on your own.
- I’m already on one chain and want to join another A second parish, the choir, a grief-support group.
On your own, or on your parish’s chain?
You see only the prayers you add yourself. Nobody else can see them, and no code is needed.
The top of the list says Prayers on this device.
You see every prayer request your parish or group has approved, and you can search them and add your own.
The top of the list shows your parish’s name.
Installed the app but can’t find your parish’s prayer requests? Nothing is broken. You are using the app on your own and haven’t joined your parish’s chain yet. Searching only looks through the prayers you can see, so until you join, it only searches your own.
To join, you need your parish’s join code. Then follow the steps below.
Where do I get a join code?
From whoever runs your parish’s or group’s prayer chain: the prayer chain coordinator, the parish office, or the group leader. Each chain has its own code, and it isn’t published anywhere, which is what keeps a parish’s prayer requests among its own people.
If the coordinator invited you by email, the code is in that email.
Joining a prayer chain for the first time
If you have just installed the app
- Open Prayer Chain. On the welcome screen, tap ⛪️ Join your group.
- Type your join code and tap Continue. Check that the name shown is your parish or group.
- Enter your full name (first and last), your email address, and a password you’ll remember.
- Tap Send my request.
If you have already been using the app on your own
- Tap ☰ Menu at the top of the screen.
- Tap ⛪️ Join your group, then OK.
- Type your join code, then your name, email and a password, exactly as above, and tap Send my request.
The prayers you kept on your own are not lost. Once you’re in, the app offers to bring them with you, and they stay private: only you will see them, just as before.
Then what?
Your request goes to the chain’s administrator, who approves it, usually the same day. You can close the app; when you open it again after approval, your parish’s prayer requests are there. Tap 🔔 Notify me when I’m approved if you’d like a notification.
Invited by email? Use that same email address. If the administrator sent you an invitation and you join with the address it was sent to, you’re let in straight away, with no wait for approval.
Already on your parish’s email list? Use the name and email address it has for you, so the administrator recognises you.
Joining another group
Once you belong to one prayer chain, you can join more: the choir’s, a grief-support group’s, another parish’s. You do it from inside the app, using the account you already have.
Don’t sign up again. Joining from the welcome screen a second time creates a second account, and your prayers end up split between the two. Use the menu instead.
- Sign in as usual and tap ☰ Menu.
- Tap ➕ Join another group.
- Type the new group’s join code (each group has its own) and confirm it’s the right group.
If that group’s administrator invited you by email, you’re in at once. Otherwise your request waits for that group’s administrator to approve it, and you carry on using your other chains in the meantime.
Once you belong to more than one, tap your parish’s logo at the top of the screen to switch between them.
Still stuck?
Don’t have the app yet?
Can’t sign in, or a join code isn’t accepted? Ask your prayer chain’s coordinator first, since they can see your request. Otherwise, email [email protected] and tell us which parish or group you’re trying to join.
